  5. 1966 Vestige

    Comments Off on 1966 Vestige

When BenRiach became independent in 2004, the new owners inherited a handful of casks from 1966 – the oldest stock in the distillery’s warehouses. By the end of 2012, just two of those casks remained, and Billy Walker has selected one of those casks, BenRiach 1966 cask # 2381, to be bottled as ‘Vestige’. The whisky is ‘Classic Speyside’ in style, bottled at cask strength and was matured in a traditional hogshead. Distilled and filled to cask on the 21st of September 1966, after 46 years of maturation, the cask generated just 62 bottles. ‘Vestige’ has been so named because it represents a moment in time, a small trace of something very special that, once lost, can never be replaced. The BenRiach 1966 cask # 2381 truly is a piece of the distillery’s history.

The ‘big brother’ to Curiositas, BenRiach ‘Authenticus’ is another peated expression of BenRiach, this time matured for a minimum of 21 years. Strictly limited to just 800 six-packs per annum, Authenticus is a rare and much sought after whisky. Bottled at natural colour and non chill filtered. The BenRiach ‘Authenticus’ 21yo has been discontinued and has been replaced by the ‘Authenticus’ 25 years old.

  7. Horizons Aged 12 Years

Comments Off on Horizons Aged 12 Years

Horizons – the 12 year old, triple distilled BenRiach – is one of the most unique whiskies to be released by The BenRiach Distillery Company. Traditionally most single malt Scotch whiskies are distilled twice, however during the late ‘90s, BenRiach experimented with some limited production runs of Triple Distilled whisky, and we have allowed the whisky to mature for a minimum of 12 years before giving you the opportunity to the sample the fruits of our labour.

  8. Heredotus Fumosus Aged 12 Years

Comments Off on Heredotus Fumosus Aged 12 Years

Released in May 2007, BenRiach ‘Heredotus Fumosus’ is part of a range of three 12 year old heavily peated BenRiachs, originally matured in American oak and then finished either in sherry, port or dark rum wood. In the case of ‘Heredotus Fumosus’, the whisky has been finished in Pedro Ximenez Sherry Butts, and the name, which is Latin, literally translates to ‘smoky sherry’. This maintains the tradition of giving our peated expressions Latin names, which started with Curiositas (10 years old) and Authenticus (21 years old), and which has become somewhat of a signature for BenRiach. Bottled at natural colour and non chill filtered, ‘Heredotus Fumosus’ is available on a strictly limited basis.

Released in July 2008, 13 years old ‘Maderensis Fumosus’ (Latin for ‘smoky Madeira’) is a heavily peated BenRiach, originally matured in American oak, then finished in Madeira wine barrels. This is the fourth expression of BenRiach where we have started with peated BenRiach as the base whisky and exposed it to the influence of cask finishing, following on from the 12 years old versions finished, respectively, in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks, Aged Tawny Port casks and Jamaican Dark Rum casks. Bottled at natural colour and non chill filtered, availability is very limited
